Silver War Badge ObverseSilver War Badge Reverse

Silver War Badge

A circular mounted badge with the crowned Royal monogram in the centre, and the inscription "FOR KING AND EMPIRE + SERVICES RENDERED+" around the outer edge. The reverse of the badge is numbered.

The badge was issued to service personnel who sustained a wound, contracted sickness or a disability in the course of the war, as a result they were invalided out.

It was worn on the lapel in civilian clothes, and was worn to prevent men of military age but not in uniform being harassed by wormen pursuing them with white feathers, which were a sign of cowardice.
