

India General Service Medal 1936 - 1939
Details reference the India General Service Medal 1936 - 1939 were sanctioned under Army Order 167 in 1938. The medal was introduced due to the change in monarchs from George V to George VI.
The obverse of the medal shows the Crowned head of King George VI with "GEORGIVS VI D:G: BR: OMN: REX ET INDIAE IMP:" around the outer edge.
The reverse shows a tiger on raised ground looking backwards with a raised right front paw, with "INDIA" above it.
The ribbon has a grey sandy coloured central band flanked by red and green stripes.
The medal was always issued with a clasp. The following clasps were issued:
North West Frontier 1936-37
North West Frontier 1937-39
For those who were Mentioned-in-Despatches, they were authorised to wear a bronze oak leaf on the riband.
