General Service Medal 1962 with Borneo Clasp
The Borneo Clasp for the General Service Medal 1962 was authorised under Ministry of Defence Army Order No 62 which was released in 1964.
It was issued for service in Northern Borneo against rebels, during the period 24 December 1962 and 11 August 1966.
Qualification for the medal varied as to which service you were in:
For the Royal Navy, they had to complete 30 days service afloat in the waters of Sabah, Brunei and Sarawak. If they were air crew they had to complete one operation sortie in support of operations ashore. They could also be awarded the medal for 30 days service ashore.
The Army were required to complete 30 days service in the areas of Sabah, Brunei and Sarawak.
The Royal Air Force gained qualification by either completing one operational sortie or 30 days service in the areas of Sabah, Brunei and Sarawak.
Lance Corporal Rambahadur Limbu was awarded a Victoria Cross for gallantry during this campaign.
